Reverse osmosis device is a device that uses the pressure difference of a semi permeable membrane to purify saline water. It is called reverse osmosis because it runs in the opposite direction to natural infiltration. Different materials have different osmotic pressure.
Working Principle
a.When pressure forces unfiltered water or feed water through a semi permeable membrane, reverse osmosis can remove pollutants from it. Water flows from the high concentration side (more pollutants) of the RO membrane to the low concentration side (less pollutants) to provide clean drinking water. The fresh water produced is called osmotic water. The remaining concentrated water is called wastewater or saline water.
b.The semi permeable membrane has small pores that can block pollutants but allow water molecules to flow through. During osmosis, water becomes denser as it passes through the membrane, achieving equilibrium on both sides.
c.However, reverse osmosis can prevent pollutants from entering the lower concentration side of the membrane. For example, when pressure is applied to a certain volume of saline water during the reverse osmosis process, the salt will be left behind and only clean water will flow through.
